UK government pledges £900 million to build "BritGPT" exascale supercomputer to advance AI technology
The UK has announced its ambition to become a key player in generative-AI, as private sector competitors from the US have taken the industry by storm.
According to TechSpot what has been dubbed 'Brit-GPT' will be 'one of the most powerful computing devices, capable of performing over one billion billion simple calculations per second (exaflops)'.
The aim of the endeavour is to produce an industry-leading AI computer which can aide the UK in multiple sectors and domains. TechSpot notes how the US and China are currently dominating the generative-AI industry and the UK's determination not to be left behind.
'One of the critical features of BritGPT will be its ability to process vast amounts of data quickly and accurately. This power will enable researchers to train AI models more effectively, leading to more accurate predictions and better decision-making. It will also allow companies to analyze large datasets more quickly, improving efficiency and reducing costs'.
