Sapphire Optics
Knight Optical can offer Sapphire optical components to our customers. Sapphire is the second hardest crystal, after diamond, available. This means it is extremely durable and suitable for use in harsh environments.
Sapphire can exhibit a slight birefringence, meaning it has two refractive indices when light enters the optic. This can be a critical parameter in some applications, such as imaging, and so c-cut sapphire needs to be specified eliminate this birefringence. Random cut sapphire will exhibit this birefringence but is suitable for most applications.
Our stock sapphire includes:
- Random and C-Cut Sapphire Windows in 5mm to 100mm diameters.
- Planoconvex Sapphire Lenses in 25.4mm to 100mm diameters.
Custom sapphire optical components included windows, spherical lenses, cylindrical lenses, ball lenses, and prisms. Dimensions to 300mm or more can be achieved. Coatings can be applied including antireflective, ITO, and hydrophobic.
All sapphire optics are tested in our metrology and QA department to verify them against their individual specifications.
